Around 1860's, White Americans were very violent, mean, and unfair toward the Native Americans. They forced these Indians to leave their lands. Also, the whites didn't gave to much reasonable options to them. Native Americans were supposed to assimilate to the whites, even though they didn't like the idea.

By 1862, the Indians (Native Americans) were obligated to leave their lands.. Many of them lived in desperate poverty in the Plains.The whites took some Indians into the reservations and abused from them. This was a way for the Indian group leader to gave up and surrendered. The Government used the scalping method as a legal way to get rid of them. The Dakota Sioux said that if they leaved the lands, they would receive money in exchange. That, never occurred.

As you know, the whites were very mean and they didn't gave too much options to the Native Americans. They offered them to lived in the Lakota Reservations, but Indians refused. They wouldn't have the same freedom there. Also, the reservations were small, uncomfortable and they would received a lack of rations.General Sherman told that if they didn't agreed, neither they leave their lands or their people would be killed. I think this was really unfair, because they could offered something better rather than that. All of this events lead to the Little Big Horn Battle in 1876, in which Colonel George Custer and his soldiers were defeated. After that, Sitting Bull and his people fled to Canada to maintain peace ; but in 1883, they returned back and settled on Standing Rock Reservations. Later on the 1890's, the Wounded Knee Massacre in which approx. 250 Indians were killed and wounded occurred. This was kind of cruel, because Indians were supposed to give up their artillery. Also, many innocent people died.

The Native Americans were supposed to assimilate to the whites. For example, that boy called Ohiyesa was forced to change his name to an American one which was Charles Eastman. Also, to cut his long straight hair. General Nelson, didn't like the idea of the religion of the "Ghost Dance", so they rebel to get rid of it. The "Ghost Dance" was a manifestation of the Native Americans inspired by Wovoka. Whites wanted to force the Indians to convert into Christianity too. They were very unfair, because everyone should have the rights to decide in what to believe in.
American people abused and acted very mean with the Native Americans. They obligated them to leave their lands even though they came first. The Whites wanted Natives Americans to be likely to them. Also, they killed a lot of innocent people just for the Indians to surrender. At last, the natives didn't have other option rather that moving to Canada.
